Passive Income

The IRS divides income into three broad categories: active or earned income, portfolio income, and passive income. In this case, passive income refers to income that is received regularly, but does not require much effort to earn. For example, a rental property does not take much effort on a daily basis for the landlord to make a little bit of money each month in the form of rent.

Income obtained from capital growth is also passive. This type of passive income, also known as a residual income business, can be ideal, especially for those looking to retire. Dividends and interest from stocks and bonds can help supplement a Social Security check each month.

Autologous Adult Stem Cells

In humans there are three sources of autologous adult stem cells. The first type comes from bone marrow. Stem cells in bone marrow have to be harvested through drilling into the bone, usually in the femur or iliac crest.

Adipose tissue (lipid cells aka fat) is the second source. Adipose tissue can be extracted via liposuction. Blood is the final source. In order to get at stem cells in blood, donated blood has to be run through a machine that can separate the stem cells. Of all the types of stem cells that exist, obtaining adult stem cells involves the least amount of risk.

Clinical Trial of Stem Cell Therapy for Septic Shock

Researchers in Ottawa have been awarded grant money to conduct the first clinical trial in the world of stem cell therapy for septic shock. According to the article I recently read, septic shock accounts for 20 percent of all ICU admissions in Canada. Those admissions cost approximately $4 billion a year.

The new therapy involves mesenchymal stem cells. They have a unique ability to change the body’s immune response, which aids in the elimination of infectious organisms. Though the trial has yet to enter phase one, it seems promising that this will yield even more proof of stem cell benefits.

More Residual Income Opportunities

In our last post we discussed ways to find a residual income opportunity. Some other residual income opportunities to consider are renting, land lease, and online earning. Renting is pretty straightforward: if you have a house, apartment, or bedroom sitting unused, consider finding a tenant for the space who will pay you each month for the privilege of living there. Yes, some maintenance work is required, but ultimately it is a passive source of additional income.

Land lease works in a similar manner. If you have extra land you can rent it to farmers for growing crops, or event cell phone companies that want to erect new cell towers on your property. As far as an online residual income property, consider monetizing a blog that you already maintain. It may take longer to see profits, but it is a fairly simple residual income opportunity to take advantage of.

Finding Residual Income

Finding a good residual income opportunity is a great way to earn money on the side that you can save for a rainy day. One popular residual income opportunity is ghost writing. In order to be successful, companies need to have an online presence. This can come in a form of a website, Facebook page, blog, or Twitter account. Companies are constantly looking for ghost writers to develop content that will help them stay relevant. This is an easy opportunity to make some money for only a few hours of work a week.

Investing in properties is another way to earn a passive income. Certain commercial properties, like paid parking lots, require little maintenance and man power. With overhead being so low, you can hire someone to run the day-to-day operations, sit back, and cash your checks.

If you’ve ever tried to find an online income opportunity, chances are you’ve come across “pay per click” advertising. What is pay per click? In a nutshell, pay per click is a cost-effective advertising method that increases traffic to a site.

Advertisers work with search engines and content websites to generate an ad along with keywords. The advertiser then negotiates how much they are willing to pay for each click on their advertisement. To increase traffic and ranking, there are businesses out there that will pay you to click on advertisements all day long. This is an easy way to earn money on the side. You may not be able to quit your day job, but you can earn some nice spending money.

Stem Cell Therapy

Several clinical trials focused on heart disease have shown that adult stem cell therapy can be safe and effective, particularly in treating heart infarcts. The benefits of stem cells may include generating new heart muscle cells, stimulating new blood vessels to repopulate damaged heart tissue, and secretion of growth factors. This is good news as millions of people have a history of heart disease in their families.

Stem cell therapy could also be used to heal wounds. As of now, most wounded tissue is replaced by scar tissue. If stem cells can be seeded into tissue healthier skin may be able to grow back. This has applications for military and civilians alike.

Claudia Castillo Transplant

In 2008, Claudia Castillo became the first person to receive a full transplant of a human organ grown from adult stem cells. Castillo’s trachea had collapsed due to tuberculosis. Researchers from the University of Padua, University of Bristol, and Politecnico di Milano collaborated to grow a new trachea for Castillo.

A section of trachea was harvested from a donor and seeded with adult stem cells from Castillo’s bone marrow. Over four days, the new trachea was grown. When it was ready, it was transplanted into the left main bronchus of Castillo. Because her own stem cells were used, there was no need for anti-rejection medication, and in fact, four months later the patient’s immune system still showed no signs of rejecting the transplant.

Accumulating Wealth: Certificate of Deposit

Education is extremely important in my family. It is pretty standard for parents and grandparents help the youngest generation save for college. One of the ways my grandparents provided for my education was by setting up CDs the year I was born. CD, in this case, stands for certificate of deposit.

Certificates of deposit are a time deposit offered by banks and credit unions. Essentially, my grandparents gave a financial institution a principal amount of money, in the thousands of dollars, which the financial institution held onto for a number of years. When the account reached maturity, a significant amount of interest had accumulated. My grandparents passed the CD money along to me when it was time for me to pay for school. How to create wealth is a difficult concept to master, but CDs are one option.

Being Realistic About At-Home Work

Tuesday, December 6, 2011

When people think about working from home, they usually get a visual of sitting at home in a bathrobe, getting up late, and counting stacks of money. Unfortunately, that’s not how a successful home business works. Although online business opportunities do offer some unique advantages, on the whole, a job from home is still a job. As such, it will require a lot of time, dedication, and know-how. And if you know this before you start working from home, you’re in a much better position to succeed.

After all, many people give up on the at-home business as a money making opportunity before it even has a chance to get off the ground because they are disappointed in the situation. They imagined long hours of rest with short hours of work, and when that doesn’t pan out, they throw up their hands and get back into the 9 to 5 grind. While your overhead costs will inevitably be lower in an internet business endeavor, there are still some startup costs that you are going to incur if you hope to be successful. In order to cover the initial investment, it is essential to find a reliable means of funding your small business.
